Full balcony replacement for this large strata building courtyard in Narrabeen on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Balcony leak detection.
The brief from our clients was to open up the entire area of this courtyard and interconnect the northern and eastern terraces and remediate the leaks occurring internally from the defective planter boxes and balcony membrane which had deteriorated over time.
Extensive remedial works were required, so we began by demolishing the planter boxes to clear the entire area to allow free flow between the two sections. The old tiles and existing waterproofing membrane were also removed to obtain a clean workable surface to begin the remediation works.
Balcony waterproofing and retiling.
To carry out these works we applied a PVC Sheet waterproofing membrane system to the entire balcony floor. We laid new travertine look- glazed porcelain tiles in a stunning graphite colour to give the balcony a contemporary new look. These tiles have a great slip rating which is perfect for this huge external area. To eliminate seepage into the garage area below, we installed an adequate drainage system to combat these issues.
Repair of water damaged walls and door hobs.
The leaks were penetrating through the two sliding door hobs causing water damage to the carpet of the living areas, so we removed the existing hobs and replaced with new. We achieved this by removing the rust from the reo bars and treating them with a corrosion inhibitor to restore before setting the new hobs.
Our final task was to prepare and render all of the existing walls with a smooth acrylic render application. A coat of elastomeric paint with a new colour scheme was applied to all of these areas to complete the overall look.
This courtyard now blends seamlessly as a vast open plan entertaining area for our very happy clients to enjoy.
