We were engaged to remediate this expansive communal balcony at this oceanfront strata unit block in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs.
There were concerns for the structural components of this cliff top masonry wall and its long term condition if left unattended any longer.
Repair of vertical crack lines in the external wall.
With vertical cracking throughout this cliff wall, we installed Helifix Helibars across the full height and width of the vertical crack lines within the balustrade wall. Additional lateral stiffening was also required to add strength to the wall. We installed piers to the internal face of the wall and concrete filled these block piers with galvanised steel reinforcement bars to the original structure.
Painting and rendering.
For the completed look we applied a smooth render finish to the entire wall face and the new piers to achieve a finish to match the existing and enable a smooth and uniform transition from the new piers to the original wall. We then texture coated the wall with Dulux Acratex Elastomeric paint to withstand the varied weather conditions at this Bondi coastal headland property.
Our clients can now enjoy the uninterrupted views and awe inspiring backdrop from their new reconstructed balcony space.
