A comprehensive strata remedial project in Cammeray.
Originally constructed in the 1970s, this 8-storey apartment building in Cammeray was initially slated for a small to medium-scale remediation project. However, as works progressed and further issues were uncovered, the project evolved into a large-scale, multi-stage remediation to restore the integrity and performance of the building.

Roof waterproofing. Long-lasting protection.
The first stage of the project focused on the rooftop. We undertook a thorough investigation and remediation works to the 41-square metre roof area, which had experienced extensive weathering and water-related damage over time.
The existing, deteriorated membrane was removed and replaced with a high-quality sheet membrane.
This is an essential upgrade designed to deliver long-lasting waterproofing performance. This solution not only safeguards the roof itself but also protects the units below and enhances the overall structural resilience of the building. It’s a durable, effective system built for years of reliable protection.

Repairing the heavily deteriorated facade.
Next, we addressed the external facade. The ageing brickwork had begun to show signs of deterioration, with cracked mortar and failed sealants contributing to water ingress and structural wear.
We removed all damaged and weathered material, then repointed the brickwork and applied new high-performance sealants. A premium penetrative sealer was then applied to the entire facade to guard against future water penetration. To validate the integrity of the sealing works, we conducted a water spray test, confirming that the external walls were fully watertight. This preventative maintenance is vital for preserving the condition and stability of a building of this age.

Flashing failure. Superior waterproofing.
With the external facade secured, we moved on to the next phase: rectifying the failed cavity flashings across four levels of the building. Scaffolding was installed in the affected section to allow safe access.
The existing bricks were carefully removed, and cavity jacks were used to support the structure while we cleaned and prepped the internal cavity areas.
A new PVC sheet membrane was then installed, chosen for its superior waterproofing capabilities. This process provides a reliable barrier against water ingress and helps to preserve the structural elements hidden within the walls.
Once completed, new brickwork was installed to match the existing facade, ensuring both visual continuity and structural soundness.

Interior water damage repairs.
To conclude this extensive project, internal repairs were carried out to address consequential water damage within the affected units.
From roof to facade and internal finishes, this remediation represents a full-spectrum response to decades of wear, delivering renewed strength, watertight performance, and extended life to this well-situated building.
