This recent project in Naremburn, located in the Willoughby LGA, involved a full balcony makeover to enhance both the appearance and long-term performance of this apartment’s outdoor space.
Balcony waterproofing. New tiles and balustrades.
We began by installing scaffold to provide safe and effective access to the balcony area. From there, we carried out a complete transformation that included new waterproofing, modern tiling, sleek frosted glass balustrades, and the installation of new aluminium sliding doors. These improvements delivered a refreshed and functional outdoor space for the unit occupants.
Long-term water ingress protection.
To ensure long-term protection against water ingress, we replaced the existing cavity flashings and sill flashings.
We also constructed a custom hob detail around the entire perimeter of the balcony. This important design choice eliminates the risk of moisture being trapped, making it a key feature for durability and performance. This is a very common issue with conventional tile edge details.
The waterproofing system included the use of a high-quality PVC sheet membrane, ideal for external surfaces such as balconies.
Prior to application, we carefully prepared the substrate surface to ensure a strong base. Clean welds were made at all joints and laps of the membrane to guarantee a watertight seal. A screed was then applied across the surface, and once it had fully cured, we used an epoxy primer to promote strong adhesion of the membrane.
This meticulous process allowed for a seamless, durable finish designed to withstand the elements.
